Backflow Device Repairs

When a backflow preventer fails its annual test, it needs to be repaired or replaced before council will sign off on compliance. We carry repair kits for the most common devices and can usually fix it on the same visit as the test — no second callout, no waiting for parts.

If your device has been flagged as failed, or it's visibly leaking or dumping water from the relief valve, give us a call. The sooner it's sorted, the sooner you're back in compliance.

Common Backflow Device Faults

Repair vs Replace

We always try to repair first — it's faster and cheaper. But sometimes a device is beyond economical repair:

We'll give you a straight assessment — no pressure to replace something that can be fixed.

Parts We Carry

We stock repair kits and common parts for the major backflow device brands used in New Zealand:

If we don't have the part on the van, we can usually source it within 1-2 working days.

Frequently Asked Questions

My backflow device failed its test — what now?

It needs to be repaired or replaced and then retested. We can usually repair on the spot during the test visit. If parts are needed, we'll come back as soon as they're in and get it sorted. Council expects compliance within a reasonable timeframe.

How much does a backflow repair cost?

A standard repair kit replacement is usually straightforward and affordable — much cheaper than a full device replacement. We'll give you the price upfront before we start any work.

My RPZ valve is constantly dripping water — is that normal?

A small amount of water from the relief valve during pressure fluctuations can be normal. But if it's a constant drip or stream, one or both check valves have likely failed and the device needs repair. Don't ignore it — the relief valve is telling you something.

Can you repair any brand of backflow device?

We repair all major brands used in New Zealand — Watts, Febco, Wilkins, Tyco, and others. We carry common repair kits on the van and can source parts for less common models quickly.

How long does a backflow repair take?

Most repairs take 30-60 minutes on site. If the device needs replacing, allow 1-2 hours depending on pipe size and access. We'll let you know the timeframe before we start.
