LPG bottle disconnection in Auckland does not involve Vector because LPG is private supply. A certifying gasfitter caps the internal pipework and issues the Gas Safety Certificate. The LPG supplier (Rockgas, Elgas, Genesis Energy, or BOC) collects the bottles. Total time is 3 to 7 days. Total cost is $400 to $700 incl GST. Replacement heat pump hot water installed is $6,399 to $8,299 incl GST. A standard electric storage cylinder is $2,499 to $4,999 incl GST.
If your property has gas bottles outside the house (not a meter at the boundary), you are on LPG. The disconnection process is different from natural gas:

If you are unsure whether your property is on natural gas or LPG, look outside: gas bottles outside the house = LPG. A meter on the boundary fence = natural gas. Natural gas is a piped utility owned by Vector — they must remove the meter and cut the riser, which takes 4 to 6 weeks. LPG is a private bottle supply — no network operator involvement. The certifying gasfitter can do the whole job in one visit. LPG disconnection is typically half the cost and one-tenth the time.
Beachlands, Maraetai, Whitford, Clevedon, Kingseat, and rural lifestyle blocks outside the Vector natural gas network. Some semi-rural properties in Pukekohe and Drury are also on LPG. If you have gas bottles outside your house rather than a meter, you are on LPG.
Partial disconnection is possible. We cap the supply lines to the appliances being removed (typically gas hot water and gas heaters) while leaving the cooktop supply in service. A Gas Safety Certificate is issued for the partial work. This is a common arrangement for households moving to heat pump hot water but keeping the gas cooktop.
